Second Trimester | 【

Updated: Feb 16, 2020

Week 13 - Week 15:

/

Week 16 - Week 19

實習師看我有點萌了,就又重新rephrase了一次 "are you brothers and sisters?"

No, we are not."

/

Week 20 - Week 23

喔對,忘了說,IT'S A BOY!

Second trimester is when everything seems to go back to normal, I would say this is the honeymoon stage! You're able to workout again and usually the morning sickness is gone as well. But every pregnancy is different. For myself this stage was when I felt like my normal self, but with a bump growing every day.

/

Week 13 - Week 15:

So even now when things feel like it's back to normal, it doesn't mean you can eat whatever. At this stage it's actually important to watch out what you eat, especially this is when baby's brain in developing.

S got me COD liver oil online. He said this was the best and I should take 1 tsp every day. At first I thought it comes in capsules... but instead it was liquid form. He said he read the reviews online and people claimed that it doesn't have any bad taste.

I opened it, took a sniff and OMG it smelled like fish. I said to him "if I can smell it, I bet I can taste it!" He told me to give it a try, and yughhhhhhhhh, I felt like I was eating fish stomach (if anyone had it before would probably know what I mean). He gave me a sneaky smile and said ,"Remember to eat this everyday!" (Really wanna just roll my eyes... like if being pregnant wasn't hard enough)

But... it's for the baby... so just gotta do it!

Week 16 - Week 19

This week we finally met with our OB at Sunnybrook hospital. Since it was our first visit, it was just a normal procedure where she asked about my family history and my health history. Then we listened to baby's heart beat and measured my blood pressure.

I've informed her that I've done leep procedure before, so I know that there might be a higher chance of having pre-term baby. Our OB was also very cautious about this, because in our following ultrasound appointments, the technician would always measure my cervix length.

Week 20 - Week 23

This week was the week we looked forward to! Because it was the week to do Anatomy Scan! Usually this is the time when you find out your baby's gender!

I've always thought it was a girl, because some say if you have a boy, you will grow pimples, but I had a pretty clear skin throughout my pregnancy.

And there is this other saying in Chinese -- if you like to eat something sour or acidic, that means it's a boy; if you like to eat something spicy, then it's a girl. I've never wanted to eat something spicy, but I do remember during my first trimester I wanted fish burger from McDonald, which was odd because I would always order chicken and never fish.

But anyways! After 40 min examination, the technician told us that

IT'S A BOY!!!

S was happy because he guessed it right (he actually had no preference, girl or boy is fine). What came through my mind was "Oh great! we can save money!" (If it was a girl, I think I would buy too much cute stuff, for her and for myself 😂) But at the end of the day, girl or boy, as long as you know the baby is healthy is the most important to all parents.

ps. I also had a dream that it was baby boy 😊

Week 24-Week28

This week is the time for glucose test! This test is to screen for gestational diabetes.

What is gestational diabetes?

Gestational diabetes (GD) is a type of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy. It happens when your body is not able to produce enough insulin to keep the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood at proper levels.

Untreated GD increases the likelihood of having a large baby, and is associated with birth complications as well as health risks for the newborn (e.g., preeclampsia, shoulder dystocia). Untreated GD also increases the risk of stillbirth late in pregnancy (36-40 weeks).

Women who develop GD are at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the future. However, there is excellent treatment for GD, and most women diagnosed with GD have normal deliveries and healthy babies.

So for this glucose test, they gave me a glucose drink, you finish it in 10 minutes and then wait for an hour to do bloodwork. The first time the result came back a little high, so I had to do another glucose tolerance test. This time it's 2 hours, where you need to draw blood on an empty stomach, drink 70ml of glucose and wait 1 hour to draw your first blood and wait another to draw the second blood.

Luckily this time I passed. I was worried if I didn't pass the glucose test, I would have to be extra cautious with what I eat moving forward.

Can you believe we are approaching Third Trimester?
